How do I reach you to send stats?
We have numerous ways to receive information and stats:
Call us for scores and we'll see they get into the Prep Stats program and The Gazette
Where/How do you get your stats?
Our one and ONLY source for our stats is from the coaches or statisticians of each team.
Following a game a team representative calls/faxes to Sports Stats their stats for the game. We can input game-by-game or cumulative/season stats, but ask coaches stick with one method.
Why don't the archives go back any farther
We switched to new software in the summer of 2002, and were unable to transfer stats from previous seasons over to the new software.
How often do you update statistical leaders?
Statistics are updated as soon as possible. Sometimes it might take a few days. We also don't always complete updates for all the information sent to us on a given night. This is because we produce information for the newspaper at night and, sometimes, run out of time to input the information into the Prep Stats database.
How come the stats I'm seeing are old?
Usually, the team may not have submitted statistics recently or we haven't had a chance to update. Ask the coach if he or she is sending them in.
Why haven't I received a reply from my email to Sports Stats?
If you haven't heard back from us in 72 hours we probably can't get your email address to work. This occurs with about 40% of the incoming messages that we receive. Double check your e-mail address for accuracy and re-send it to us. Include your telephone number the second time in case we can't successfully end the e-mail.
Why is my name misspelled and how do I correct it?
We receive most of our information over the phone and via fax machine. This causes numerous problems with the stats and with the spelling of players' names. The faxes can be very difficult to read. Coaches also submit incorrect names. Tournament results are notorious for improper spelling because the host school is usually only certain of the spelling of their own athletes.
It is our goal to spell all names correctly but it can be difficult. If you see an incorrect name, E-mail the right one to us.
Why do a lot of the teams play against themselves on the schedules?
When a coach submits a cumulative statistical report, we have to enter the stats separately from the game-by-game reports. So we create an additional game and have that team play against itself. We date it for the day the report came in and update that "game" throughout the season.
Why are the conference and overall records in golf, swimming, track, cross country incorrect?
Records are difficult to input for sports that play in many tournaments or invitationals. Our software is designed for a home team score and a visiting team score. That’s why the records and schedule for sports that play in numerous tournaments or meets have their record incorrect.
